£55m Newcastle Star Named Arsenal’s Top Summer Target

Arsenal have been identified as the most likely Premier League destination for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, with the Italian international emerging as a prime target for our summer transfer window.
The Gunners made a late approach for the 25-year-old during January, but Newcastle swiftly rejected our enquiry as we continue to lead the Premier League table. Now, with summer on the horizon, it appears we’re set to return with renewed interest.
The Price Tag Challenge
Newcastle’s valuation presents a significant obstacle. Having signed Tonali for £55 million from AC Milan in 2023, the Magpies now reportedly demand a fee exceeding £100 million for their prized asset.

According to Sky Sport Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio, speaking to AceOdds, Arsenal face competition from Juventus but remain favourites if Tonali chooses to stay in England.
“Arsenal really wants him as well, but they didn’t really try to sign him in January, because it was simply impossible. There was no possibility that he could leave Newcastle in January,” Di Marzio explained.
The Italian Connection
While we’re positioned as frontrunners domestically, Tonali’s heart may lie elsewhere. Di Marzio suggests the midfielder misses Italy and could prioritise a Serie A return, particularly with Juventus keen on securing his signature.
“I am not sure if he wants to stay in the Premier League, because he might want to go back to Italy,” the respected journalist noted. “He also had a child, so even if he stays in the Premier League, it might not be more than two or three years.”
The financial reality could work in our favour, however. Juventus would struggle to match Newcastle’s asking price, especially without Champions League qualification guaranteed.
Perfect Arteta Fit
Tonali’s technical ability and work rate would complement our midfield perfectly under Mikel Arteta’s system. The Italian’s experience in top-level football, combined with his versatility, makes him an attractive proposition as we look to strengthen our squad depth.
His brief betting suspension earlier this season seems firmly behind him, and he’s shown no lingering effects on his performances for Newcastle.
With summer still months away, expect this saga to develop significantly. If Tonali decides the Premier League remains his preferred destination, we appear best-placed to secure his signature – provided we’re willing to meet Newcastle’s substantial valuation.
