Arsenal Midfielder Focuses on Club Recovery, Skips National Duty

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has withdrawn from international duty with Norway, opting to prioritise his recovery after recently returning from injury.
The 25-year-old midfielder had missed seven consecutive Premier League matches due to an ankle issue but made his comeback in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Sunday.
Despite completing the full 90 minutes and delivering an impressive assist, Odegaard has decided to skip Norway’s Nations League matches to continue his rehabilitation in London.

Odegaard’s Decision to Step Back from International Play
Odegaard had travelled to Oslo to join the Norwegian squad ahead of their upcoming fixtures against Slovenia and Kazakhstan.
However, after consulting with the national team’s medical staff, the Arsenal star chose to pull out of the squad and return to London for further recovery.
Speaking to the Norwegian Football Association, Odegaard explained his difficult decision: “I’ve been through a long training period, and when you haven’t practised football in the last nine weeks, it’s natural not to be 100 per cent yet. I need to listen to my body, complete this rehab process, and get my foot back in good shape.”
Odegaard emphasised his disappointment at missing out on representing his country but acknowledged that his recent injury and extended rehabilitation period necessitated caution.
Norway manager Stale Solbakken echoed this sentiment, admitting the squad understood “there was a risk” Odegaard might not be fit enough to participate.
Solbakken said that Norway could not “risk his health,” reflecting Arsenal’s own hopes to have their captain fit for the next Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on November 23.
Arteta’s Praise for Odegaard’s Resilience
Odegaard’s return against Chelsea underscored his importance to Arsenal, as the midfielder delivered a standout performance after nearly two months on the sidelines.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his captain’s commitment and ability to make an immediate impact, stating, “I don’t know another player that is capable of [playing 90 minutes to that standard] after six weeks out. He had a day and a half to be able to do that. Just how physically and mentally connected he was with the team, it was unbelievable.”
Arteta will be keen for Odegaard to fully recover, as the midfielder’s influence is pivotal for the Gunners.
Arsenal’s next match is set to be a challenging one, as they face Nottingham Forest at The City Ground, where Forest have proven a formidable opponent, securing recent victories over Liverpool, Crystal Palace, and West Ham.
Odegaard’s playmaking skills will be crucial if Arsenal are to keep pace with league leaders and make up lost ground in the Premier League standings.
As Arsenal seek to strengthen their title challenge, the return of a fully fit Odegaard could play a decisive role in their campaign.
