Arsenal’s interest in Anthony Gordon has intensified after Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe dropped the biggest hint yet about the winger’s uncertain future at St. James’ Park.
The England international was left as an unused substitute during Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, sparking fresh speculation about his role under Howe. When questioned about the decision, the Magpies boss admitted he was “looking at the future” regarding Gordon’s situation.

According to Football London, Arsenal’s interest in Gordon is genuine, with the possibility that the Gunners could strengthen their forward line this summer despite already investing over £100 million in Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke.
Howe’s telling comments
While Howe initially claimed Gordon’s omission was purely tactical, his subsequent radio interview suggested deeper considerations. “The team has performed well in Anthony’s absence, we have gone with a bit more solidity with Joelinton playing wide,” Howe explained.
More tellingly, he added: “Ant has come back to fitness and is training well but also I am looking at the future.”
Gordon remains under contract at Newcastle until 2030, putting the club in a strong negotiating position. The Magpies paid £45 million for the winger in 2023, and with a 15% sell-on clause owed to Everton, they will demand full market value for any departure.
Arsenal’s attacking reinforcements
Despite their significant summer outlay, Arsenal’s forward line has shown mixed results this season. Gyokeres endured a slow start but has found form in the second half of the campaign, netting 21 goals across all competitions. Madueke, however, has managed just seven goals, highlighting potential room for improvement in the Gunners’ attacking options.
Gordon would not be short of suitors if Newcastle decide to cash in. Bayern Munich have also been linked with the 26-year-old, while Liverpool remain interested after a previous move fell through in 2024.
The winger previously dismissed transfer speculation earlier this year, telling reporters: “I think they just pick names out of a hat. I haven’t heard anything; they might want to tell me before they tell you.”
However, Gordon is reportedly among the players Newcastle could sell to raise funds for reinforcements amid challenging Squad Cost Ratio constraints this summer. Previous reports suggested the Kirkdale-born winger would favour a move to London if he were to leave St. James’ Park.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Gordon represents their continued ambition to add quality and depth to their squad as they look to challenge on multiple fronts next season.
