Arsenal have secured their place in the Champions League final after defeating Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the semi-final second leg at the Emirates, winning 2-1 on aggregate.
Bukayo Saka scored the decisive goal in the first half, reacting quickest in a crowded penalty box after Viktor Gyokeres’ cross was parried by Jan Oblak. The England international beat the offside trap to tap home from close range, sending the Emirates into raptures.

Cagey first half breaks open
Mikel Arteta named an unchanged side from the team that beat Fulham, with Myles Lewis-Skelly retaining his place in midfield ahead of Martin Zubimendi. The young midfielder delivered another excellent performance alongside Declan Rice, who made a crucial block in his own six-yard box to deny Atletico an early opener.
The breakthrough came just before halftime when William Saliba found Gyokeres with a perfectly weighted pass. The Swedish striker’s cross took a deflection off David Hancko, leaving Oblak stranded, before finding Leandro Trossard whose effort was saved. Saka was perfectly positioned to convert the rebound.
Nervy second half sees Arsenal home
Atletico came out fighting after the break and nearly equalised when Saliba’s header went awry, allowing Alexander Sorloth through on goal. The Norwegian rounded David Raya but skewed his finish wide under pressure from Gabriel.
The visitors had a strong penalty appeal when Riccardo Calafiori appeared to fouled Antoine Griezmann in the box, but VAR determined Gabriel had been fouled in the buildup, much to Arsenal’s relief.
Both managers made triple substitutions as tensions rose, with Martin Odegaard and Noni Madueke introduced for the Gunners. Gyokeres had a golden opportunity to seal the tie but side-footed over from close range after excellent work from substitute Piero Hincapie.
The closing stages saw frayed tempers as both Arteta and Diego Simeone were booked, with even Atletico’s sporting director Andrea Berta involved in touchline confrontations. Sorloth missed another glorious chance in stoppage time, miskicking from a perfect position as Arsenal held on for a famous victory.
Final awaits in Budapest
The result caps off what Arseblog described as “a typically excellent collective performance,” with Gyokeres earning particular praise alongside Ben White, Lewis-Skelly and Trossard.
Arsenal will now face either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain in the final later this month, marking their first Champions League final appearance in two decades. The Emirates faithful created an electric atmosphere throughout, providing the perfect backdrop for one of the most significant nights in recent Arsenal history.
