Mikel Arteta’s side face a challenging test on Saturday as they host Nottingham Forest, who have impressed this season.
Arsenal will rely heavily on Martin Odegaard, whose return from injury could prove pivotal to their chances.
Odegaard’s Return Offers a Boost
Martin Odegaard, Arsenal’s captain and creative linchpin, is being tipped as the key player to turn Arsenal’s fortunes around.
The 25-year-old missed 10 matches across the Premier League and Champions League due to a complicated ankle injury but returned to action in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea just before the international break.
BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton believes Odegaard’s unique qualities set him apart.
“Odegaard is their one player who is on a different level when he is on the ball, and almost plays a different game,” Sutton wrote.
“He has that incredible awareness and understanding that allows him to knit everything together, and Arsenal will need that against Forest.”
Odegaard’s absence had left a noticeable void in Arsenal’s midfield.
His ability to dictate play and link up with attacking players will be critical against Forest’s organised defence.
Focus on Full Recovery
Despite his return to the pitch, Odegaard took a cautious approach during the international break.
The midfielder travelled to Oslo to join Norway’s squad for their Nations League fixtures but ultimately withdrew to focus on his recovery.
Speaking to the Norwegian Football Association, Odegaard explained: After discussions with the medical staff at the national team, we have unfortunately concluded that the situation is not good enough to play these matches.
“I’ve been through a long training period, and when you haven’t practised football in the last nine weeks, it’s natural not to be 100 percent yet. I need to listen to my body, complete this rehab process and get my foot back in good shape.”
Norway’s team doctor, Ola Sand, described the injury as “complicated” and emphasised the need for Odegaard to regain full match fitness.
Norway manager Stale Solbakken also expressed regret but supported the decision to prioritise the player’s health.
Must-Win for Arsenal
The clash against Forest presents a crucial opportunity for Arsenal to end their winless streak and reinvigorate their campaign.
Currently lagging behind league leaders Liverpool, the Gunners know they must string together victories to stay in the race for a top-four finish.
With Odegaard’s return offering renewed hope, Arsenal will look to their captain’s leadership and creativity to guide them through a challenging fixture.
All eyes will be on the Emirates this Saturday as the Gunners aim to get their season back on track.
