Arsenal are facing a summer of brutal squad decisions as Mikel Arteta prepares for what could be a transformative transfer window following a campaign that has seen the Gunners within touching distance of a historic double.

With Arsenal leading the Premier League by six points over Manchester City and in the Champions League semi-finals against Atletico Madrid, the foundations for success are clearly in place. However, according to Football London, several key players could be shown the door as the club looks to strengthen for next season.

Defensive overhaul on the cards

Perhaps the most surprising recommendation sees Ben White earmarked for a summer exit despite his £50million price tag and previous importance under Arteta. The England international has struggled with injuries and appears to have lost his place to Jurrien Timber, with concerns raised about whether his best days are behind him at 28.

The goalkeeper department could also see changes, with Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future uncertain despite generally reliable performances. His costly error in the Carabao Cup final remains a low point, though his experience as backup to David Raya still holds value.

Midfield shake-up expected

The midfield appears set for the biggest transformation, with several established names potentially heading for the exit. Christian Norgaard’s signing from Brentford has been labeled “baffling,” having failed to start a single league fixture this season despite his Premier League experience.

More controversially, captain Martin Odegaard has been identified as a player the club should consider selling, with suggestions that “the Arsenal project has moved past” the Norwegian despite his leadership role.

Academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri, currently on loan at Marseille, could also be sold permanently after struggling to establish himself in either Arsenal’s or his loan club’s first team plans.

Attack requires freshening

The forward line faces its own upheaval, with Gabriel Jesus topping the list of players who should be moved on due to his persistent injury problems. The Brazilian has struggled to maintain the form he showed upon arriving from Manchester City.

Leandro Trossard, at 31, is another candidate for departure despite moments of quality this season. His age profile suggests this summer represents the optimal time to secure value before his market worth diminishes further.

However, key stars like Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and William Saliba are viewed as untouchable assets who should form the core of Arteta’s squad moving forward.

The summer window will prove crucial as Arsenal look to build on their current success while addressing the squad imbalances that have occasionally hindered their progress this season.
