Arsenal star reveals his secret behind relentless energy

Declan Rice has lifted the lid on how he maintains his incredible energy levels as Arsenal continue their pursuit of silverware across four competitions.
The England midfielder scored Arsenal’s second goal in the 2-0 Champions League victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night, curling a powerful strike into the bottom corner to secure a 3-1 aggregate win and book the Gunners’ place in the quarter-finals.
Rice’s goal was his fifth of the season across all competitions, adding to his impressive tally of 11 assists. The 27-year-old has been a constant presence for Mikel Arteta’s side, starting 37 of his 43 appearances this term and playing the third-most minutes of any outfielder behind Martin Zubimendi and the injured Jurrien Timber.

“I just get this second burst of energy”
Speaking to TNT Sport after the victory, Rice admitted the relentless fixture schedule is taking its toll but revealed how he finds the strength to keep performing.
“I’m shattered, it’s non-stop. We’re in all the competitions still so it’s been every three days since October. We deal with it best we can but it’s difficult. We find ways to win and it’s all good. Everyone asks where I get my energy from. I just get this second burst of energy.”
The midfielder’s teammates have nicknamed him “The Horse” – a moniker that perfectly captures his tireless running and ability to cover ground for 90 minutes every three days.
Rice’s striking ability from distance has become a key weapon for Arsenal. Eight of his 21 goals for the club have come from outside the box, including his three most recent Champions League strikes. His delivery from corners has also proved invaluable, contributing to his assist tally this season.
Arteta praises Rice’s impact
Arteta was full of praise for his midfielder’s performance against Leverkusen, describing Rice as part of “the soul of the team.”
“He was immense. Him and the whole team. I just mentioned that, the soul of the team. The manner that they go for every ball, the passion that they show in every action is remarkable. And doing it every three days at that level is so difficult.”
The partnership between Rice and Zubimendi has become crucial to Arsenal’s success this season, with both players providing a solid foundation in midfield. Their importance has only grown with captain Martin Odegaard’s injury struggles throughout the campaign.
Arsenal sit nine points clear at the top of the Premier League and remain active in four competitions. The Gunners face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday, offering the chance to end their six-year trophy drought.
Rice is confident about Arsenal’s momentum heading into the final, believing the team’s winning run will carry them through the crucial period ahead.
