Cristhian Mosquera believes Arsenal are finally “ready” to end their trophy drought this season, despite the club’s recent Carabao Cup final defeat.

The Spanish defender has been a standout performer since joining the Gunners from Valencia last summer, establishing himself as a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s defensive setup.

Mosquera confident Arsenal can deliver

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s crucial Premier League run-in, Mosquera expressed his belief that the north London side can compete on multiple fronts this term.

“In recent years, Arsenal hasn’t quite achieved what it set out to do, but I think we’re ready this year,” Mosquera told Football London. “We know we have the chance to win titles. We’re going to do everything we can to bring joy to the fans.”

The 22-year-old’s confidence extends to Arsenal’s European campaign, with the Gunners having reached the Champions League quarter-finals.

“In the Champions League, I think we’re doing pretty well this year, we’re in the quarter-finals now, and hopefully we can go further and win it,” he added.

Learning from world-class defenders

Mosquera’s rapid adaptation to English football has been aided by the guidance of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, both of whom are currently managing ankle and knee issues respectively.

The former Valencia academy graduate could find himself with increased responsibility in the coming weeks as Arsenal’s title challenge intensifies.

“From day one, the two of them have been by my side, giving me advice and always trying to look after me, like parents, like older siblings,” Mosquera explained. “I’m very grateful to them. They are two of the best centre-backs in the world, and it’s a pleasure and a privilege to train with them and watch them play every weekend.”

Mosquera’s impressive club form has translated to international recognition, with the defender making his senior Spain debut in Friday’s 3-0 friendly victory over Serbia.

Having previously been courted by Colombia, Mosquera is now focused on securing his place in Spain’s World Cup squad.

“What I’m going through is crazy, so I’ve got to make the most of it,” he reflected. “Only God knows if I’ll get the chance to make that list, but I think every player that represents his country dreams of going to the World Cup.”

Arsenal’s defensive solidity has been crucial to their title aspirations this season, and Mosquera’s emergence as a reliable option provides Arteta with valuable depth as the campaign reaches its climax.
