Record-breaking debut season
Dowman has enjoyed a sensational first season in Arsenal’s senior setup, making his Premier League debut against Leeds at just 15 years and 235 days old. The attacking midfielder marked that memorable appearance by winning a penalty that helped the Gunners secure a commanding 5-0 victory.
The youngster then etched his name into the history books in March by becoming the Premier League’s all-time youngest goalscorer when he found the net in stoppage-time against Everton. His impressive cameos throughout the campaign have drawn widespread praise and speculation about his international future.
According to the Evening Standard, many have suggested Dowman should be considered for England’s World Cup squad as a potential game-changer, though he is not believed to have been included in Thomas Tuchel’s 55-man provisional list.
Arteta’s glowing assessment
Mikel Arteta has been effusive in his praise for the teenager, comparing him favourably to some of the finest young talents he has encountered. When asked how Dowman stacks up against other academy prospects at the top level, the Arsenal manager described him as “certainly one of the best.”
“What he’s done with us at the age of 15 – me, personally, I haven’t seen it before,” Arteta explained. “Only with a guy that used to play in Barcelona, but maybe not even that. Not only that he has a certain charisma as well and a personality that he doesn’t get overwhelmed, whether it’s by the situation, or the stadium, or the opposition. That’s a huge quality to have.”
Dowman has already secured his future at the Emirates Stadium by signing a pre-agreement to pen a professional contract with Arsenal when he turns 17 in December. The recognition from the Premier League underlines just how exceptional his impact has been during his debut season.
Arsenal also celebrated another academy success at the awards ceremony, with Andre Harriman-Annous claiming the scholar of the year award after making two senior appearances this season. The dual recognition highlights the continued strength of the club’s youth development system under Arteta’s guidance.
