Arsenal Women demolish West Ham 5-0 to boost Champions League hopes

Arsenal Women delivered a commanding 5-0 victory over West Ham at the Emirates, significantly strengthening their chances of Champions League qualification as rivals Manchester United and Chelsea both dropped points.
The result comes at a crucial time for Renée Slegers’ side, who now find themselves well-positioned with games in hand over their top-four competitors. With United slipping up earlier in the week and Chelsea failing to win today, Arsenal have closed the gap considerably in the race for European football.

Early dominance sets the tone
Arsenal wasted no time in asserting their authority, taking the lead after just four minutes. Chloe Kelly’s cross from the left found Stina Blackstenius, who provided the decisive touch to guide the ball home.
The north London side dominated the opening period, registering an remarkable 14 shots to West Ham’s solitary effort by half-time. Despite creating numerous clear-cut chances through Alessia Russo, Olivia Smith, and Blackstenius, Arsenal took a slender 1-0 lead into the break.
Second-half surge seals emphatic win
The floodgates opened after the restart. Russo doubled the advantage early in the second half, meeting Smila Holmberg’s cross with a close-range header following excellent build-up play involving Smith.

With 14 minutes of added time played due to an injury to West Ham’s Nystrom, Arsenal maintained their professional approach throughout, keeping a clean sheet despite late pressure.
