Victoria Pelova will depart Arsenal at the end of the season when her contract expires, bringing to a close a successful three-year spell with the club.

The Dutch midfielder joined Arsenal from Ajax in January 2023 and quickly established herself as a key player in the Gunners’ midfield setup. Her impact was particularly evident during the 2023-24 season, where her partnership with Kim Little and Lia Wälti formed the backbone of Arsenal’s midfield.

Injury setback changed trajectory

Pelova’s Arsenal journey took a difficult turn when she ruptured her ACL on international duty in June 2024. The serious injury sidelined the 26-year-old for an extended period, and upon her return, she found regular game time harder to secure under manager Renée Slegers.

According to Arseblog, Pelova’s situation was unlikely to improve at Arsenal with significant midfield reinforcements arriving this summer. Georgia Stanway and Geraldine Reuteler are both set to join the club, while Kim Little has extended her contract for another year.

Trophy-laden spell

Despite the challenging end to her Arsenal career, Pelova’s time in north London has been decorated with silverware. The midfielder won two Continental Cups and a Champions League during her spell at the club, contributing to one of the most successful periods in Arsenal Women’s recent history.

In total, Pelova made 87 appearances for Arsenal and scored six goals across all competitions. Her technical ability and intelligent play made her a favourite among supporters, particularly during her standout 2023-24 campaign before the injury disruption.

The Dutch international’s departure is part of a broader summer overhaul at Arsenal Women. The club have already confirmed that goalkeeper Manu Zinsberger, defender Naomi Williams, and centre-back Laia Codina will also leave when their contracts expire.

All confirmed departures are expected to be officially announced ahead of Arsenal’s final home game of the season on Wednesday against Everton. The match will provide an opportunity for supporters to say farewell to players who have contributed to the club’s recent success.

Pelova’s exit marks the end of a chapter that began with such promise when she arrived from Ajax. While injury ultimately curtailed her influence in the final year, her contributions during Arsenal’s trophy-winning campaigns will be remembered fondly by the club and its supporters.
