Arteta May Deploy Saka at No 10 to Accommodate In-Form Star

Mikel Arteta could be preparing a tactical switch for Arsenal’s home clash with Everton on Saturday, with Bukayo Saka potentially moving to the number 10 role to accommodate the impressive form of Noni Madueke.

The England international endured a frustrating evening against Bayer Leverkusen in midweek, becoming Arteta’s first substitution of the night as Arsenal trailed in Germany. Saka struggled to make his usual impact against an organized defence, leading to his early withdrawal on the hour mark.

According to The Guardian, Madueke’s introduction made an immediate impression, despite later being accused of simulation for the penalty that secured Arsenal’s 1-1 draw.

“I thought that we needed something else,” Arteta admitted after the match. “Noni has been contributing and being a real threat.”

The tactical reshuffle would see Saka move centrally behind the striker, a position he has operated in for England on several occasions. This adjustment would allow Madueke to continue his recent run of impressive performances on the right flank, where his pace and directness have troubled Premier League defences.

Competition for Places Intensifies

The potential change highlights the increased competition for places in Arteta’s squad, with Madueke’s recent contributions putting pressure on established starters. The former PSV winger has shown he can provide the attacking threat that Arsenal have sometimes lacked in wide areas.

Should Arteta opt for this formation, it could also provide Eberechi Eze with a well-deserved rest after what was described as a lacklustre display in the Champions League fixture. The Crystal Palace loanee has been a regular feature in Arsenal’s attacking lineup but may benefit from rotation during a congested fixture period.

Perfect Opportunity Against Everton

Saturday’s encounter with Everton at the Emirates Stadium presents an ideal opportunity for Arteta to experiment with his tactical setup. The Toffees arrive in North London sitting in eighth place, three points behind Arsenal, but have shown vulnerability in recent fixtures.

Arsenal currently top the Premier League table with 67 points from 30 matches, seven points clear of Manchester City who have played one game fewer. Maintaining their attacking fluidity will be crucial as the title race enters its decisive phase.

The 5:30pm kick-off will provide Arsenal with the chance to respond positively to the midweek draw and potentially extend their advantage at the summit. Whether Saka operates from his familiar wide position or takes up a more central role, the Gunners will be looking to continue their impressive home form against Sean Dyche’s resilient Everton side.
