Barcelona are reportedly worried that Arsenal may outmaneuver them in the race to sign one of La Liga’s standout midfielders.

As both clubs look to strengthen their squads, the competition for top talent is intensifying.

Arsenal’s Squad Strengthening Strategy

Arsenal, under the leadership of Mikel Arteta, are gearing up for another challenge for the Premier League title after narrowly missing out to Manchester City in the last two seasons.

Arteta is keen to add firepower to his squad, with a new striker and a midfield partner for Declan Rice high on his priority list.

The potential departure of Thomas Partey this summer has made this even more urgent.

Bruno Guimaraes and Mikel Merino in the Spotlight

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Brazilian has a reported £100m release clause in his contract, attracting interest from both Arsenal and Manchester City.

However, Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino, currently shining at Euro 2024 with Spain, is also drawing significant attention.

Merino, who previously played for Newcastle United in the 2017-18 season, has been in excellent form for La Real.

His performances have put him on the radar of both Arsenal and Barcelona, leading to a potential transfer battle.

Reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona are particularly wary of Arsenal’s interest in Merino.

The Catalan giants are keen to secure the midfielder but are aware of the strong competition posed by the Gunners.

Thomas Partey’s Future

Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Thomas Partey has expressed his commitment to Arsenal.

In a recent statement, Partey said, “My head is always here. This is where I choose to play, and I’m really happy every time I’m on the field. There’s been a lot of speculation, but for me, I’m happy to be here and to continue playing for this club.”

Arteta has also reaffirmed Partey’s importance to the team.

“We need him because he’s a top player, a very important player for us, and you can see on the pitch the impact he can have. He’s our player, he’s got one more year on his contract, and I’m really happy with him,” Arteta stated.

As the summer transfer window heats up, the race to sign Mikel Merino is set to be one of the most intriguing storylines.

With Barcelona and Arsenal both vying for his signature, it remains to be seen which club will come out on top.
