Captain’s Return Timeline Revealed Ahead of City Final

Arsenal fans have received a mixed injury update on captain Martin Odegaard, with his return timeline potentially stretching into late March – raising questions about his availability for crucial fixtures including the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
The influential Norwegian has missed our last two matches with a lingering knee issue that has frustrated both player and manager. After being a surprise omission from the squad for the 2-1 victory over Chelsea, Odegaard was again absent for Wednesday’s 1-0 win against Brighton.
Norway Boss Provides Update
Speaking to Viaplay, Norway national team coach Stale Solbakken offered reassurance about the severity of the injury while suggesting a longer recovery period than many Arsenal fans might hope for.

“There is nothing serious about Martin. The most important thing is that he recovers completely and is good for us in the summer,” Solbakken explained.
However, the Norway boss appeared to indicate that Odegaard may not return until late March at the earliest, stating: “He’s going to rebuild and be crucial for Arsenal in April-May and maybe late March.”
This timeline would potentially see our captain miss both legs of the Champions League last-16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen, the Premier League clash with Everton, and crucially, the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on March 22.
Injury-Hit Campaign Continues
The latest setback continues what has been a frustrating season for Odegaard, who previously missed almost two months with a medial collateral ligament problem in his left knee. He also battled a recurring shoulder issue during the early stages of the campaign.
Mikel Arteta explained that the current problem stems from the knee injury sustained in last month’s draw with Brentford, which initially saw him miss games against Wolves and Wigan before returning off the bench with an assist in our north London derby rout of Tottenham.
The Arsenal boss noted ahead of the Chelsea match that Odegaard was “still not feeling totally comfortable” with the knee, emphasizing the club’s cautious approach to his recovery.
With Odegaard sidelined, we’ve shown our depth by securing victories against both Chelsea and Brighton, but his creative influence will be sorely missed as we enter the business end of the season across multiple competitions.
As reported by The Evening Standard, the focus remains on ensuring our captain returns fully fit rather than rushing him back for crucial fixtures.
Can we maintain our momentum across all competitions without our creative heartbeat, or will Odegaard’s extended absence prove costly in our biggest games?
