Cesc Fabregas has revealed how Mikel Arteta’s advice helped him overcome early doubts about his readiness to manage Como in Serie A.

The Arsenal legend sought guidance from the Gunners boss when uncertainty crept in during the early stages of his managerial career. Arteta’s response proved to be exactly what Fabregas needed to hear.

The Competitive Edge

Speaking to Football Italia, Fabregas recalled the conversation that shifted his perspective on management.

“I had spoken to Arteta and said I wasn’t sure if I was ready for this,” Fabregas explained. “He told me: ‘We are so competitive, that even if you are not ready, your urge to be competitive will push you to find solutions and give you that vision.'”

The advice centered on trusting natural competitive instincts rather than getting bogged down by perceived inadequacies. Arteta encouraged his former teammate to lean into his inherent drive for success.

“I can say that two years later, he was right,” Fabregas added. “My staff helped with advice, but at the end of the day, I am the one who has to talk, to make decisions, to feel it within me. A coach has to be ready.”

Parallel Paths

The exchange highlights interesting parallels between both managers’ careers. Arteta faced similar scrutiny when Arsenal appointed him despite his lack of head coaching experience.

Like Fabregas at Como, Arteta was given time and backing to develop his methods. The north London side’s patience has paid dividends, with the club now competing at the highest level after years of tactical evolution under his guidance.

Fabregas has similarly impressed during his time in charge of Como, helping the Italian side remain competitive in Serie A while establishing his credentials as a promising young manager.

The Spanish midfielder’s transition from player to coach demonstrates how elite competitors can adapt their mentality to new challenges. His success reflects both personal dedication and the value of having experienced voices like Arteta to turn to during moments of uncertainty.

As Fabregas continues to build his managerial reputation, his early progress suggests he possesses the qualities needed to establish himself among Europe’s emerging coaching talents.
