Steven Gerrard has publicly backed Liverpool to sign Michael Olise ahead of Arsenal in what promises to be a fierce summer transfer battle for the Bayern Munich attacker.
The former Liverpool captain believes his old club must recruit a “box office” player to replace Mohamed Salah, who is set to depart at the end of the season. Olise has emerged as the leading candidate for that role.

Arsenal face uphill battle
Both Arsenal and Liverpool are monitoring Olise’s situation at Bayern Munich, where the attacker has excelled since moving to Germany. The Gunners are keen to bolster their attacking options, but Liverpool’s need appears more pressing given Salah’s impending exit.
According to the Metro, Gerrard emphasized the caliber of player required to fill Salah’s boots. “I’d be very surprised if they don’t be someone who is box office (like Olise). Or you’re not replacing them,” he said.
“They have to be top end, top three of four in the world to replace Mo Salah. Because that is where he has been.”
Complex transfer situation
Bayern Munich are determined to keep Olise as they continue competing at Europe’s highest level. The attacker’s technical ability and goal threat have made him one of the continent’s most effective forwards during his time in Bavaria.
While Olise has Premier League experience, he has yet to represent one of England’s elite clubs, adding another layer of intrigue to the developing transfer saga.
Arsenal’s superior form this season could work in their favor, potentially offering a more attractive proposition than Liverpool’s inconsistent campaign. However, the Merseyside club’s immediate need for a Salah replacement may give them additional motivation in negotiations.
With multiple factors at play and Bayern reluctant to sell, any potential move will depend on developments over the coming months as both Premier League giants prepare for what could be a defining summer in the transfer market.
