Manchester City’s 115 financial charges case against the Premier League continues to drag on, with conflicting reports emerging about when a verdict might finally be announced.
Almost 18 months have passed since the 12-week hearing between City’s legal representatives and the Premier League concluded, yet the football community is still waiting for the final judgment to be delivered.

Arsenal are likely monitoring the situation closely, given their ongoing Premier League title race against Pep Guardiola’s side. The outcome could have significant implications for the current campaign and beyond.
Verdict timeline confusion
According to Football London, The Independent’s Miguel Delaney disclosed on the ‘Libero’ podcast that his most recent information suggested the verdict would be announced over Easter, but it has now been pushed back to the summer.
The Athletic reported in mid-March that anonymous sources from both sides of the case have not received any updates from the independent panel regarding the timeline.
City were initially accused of 115 breaches of financial regulations, though the actual number is understood to be nearer to 130. The club have strongly refuted any wrongdoing throughout the process.
Potential punishments discussed
Recent speculation has suggested City could face a 60-point deduction if found guilty. Former City defender Richard Dunne called the prolonged timeline “ridiculous” and argued that any decision should wait until summer to avoid disrupting the current title race.
Chelsea’s recent case may provide some insight into potential outcomes. The Blues received a £10million fine for financial violations, but crucially, they cooperated fully with the investigation.
The Premier League noted that Chelsea’s “proactive self-reporting, admissions of breach and exceptional cooperation throughout the investigation acted as significant mitigating factors.”
This contrasts sharply with City’s situation. The Premier League has alleged that City failed to “cooperate with, and assist, the Premier League in its investigations, including by providing documents and information to the Premier League in the utmost good faith.”
Should City be found guilty, this lack of cooperation could mean they won’t benefit from the same lenient treatment afforded to Chelsea.
The case has overshadowed City’s recent successes, including their Carabao Cup triumph over Arsenal last weekend. As Dunne noted, the ongoing charges have become a constant talking point that detracts from the club’s on-field achievements.
The resolution of this case will have far-reaching implications for the Premier League landscape, with Arsenal and other title contenders watching developments closely as the season progresses.
