Police are investigating an incident at the Emirates Stadium after Everton striker Thierno Barry claimed his friends were “attacked” during Arsenal’s 2-0 victory on Saturday evening.

The 23-year-old forward, who came off the bench in the 69th minute for the Toffees, posted a clip on social media showing what he alleged was his friends being targeted in the away end. Barry claimed they were subsequently escorted away by security staff and police due to “fears of retaliation from our supporters.”

No Arrests Made

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are investigating the incident but stated that no serious injuries were reported and no arrests have been made. Officers are working with both clubs to identify those involved, with Merseyside Police also participating in the investigation.

According to Football London, Barry expressed his frustration on Instagram following the match, writing: “This kind of behaviour is not acceptable in a stadium. I bring my friends to enjoy a game, and it gets ruined by a few silly people.”

“Football should be a place where everyone feels safe and respected. This type of attitude has no place in the game and is simply not tolerated in football,”

The striker added that his friends “had to be escorted by the Arsenal club’s security staff as well as the police because of fears of retaliation from our supporters.”

Club Responses

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed: “Officers and stewards responded to the incident. No serious injuries were reported. Enquiries are ongoing and we are working with both clubs to identify those involved. There have been no arrests.”

Arsenal declined to release a statement on the incident when approached for comment. However, Everton acknowledged they are aware of what occurred and issued a strong condemnation.

“Violent or disorderly behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place in football. It does not reflect the passionate and loyal support Everton receives both home and away,”

The Toffees added that they “will work with the relevant authorities to establish the facts and take any appropriate action.”

The incident marred what was otherwise a routine victory for the Gunners, who secured three points to maintain their position near the top of the Premier League table. The investigation continues as both clubs work with police to identify those involved in the altercation.
