Victor Froholdt has outlined his intention to remain at FC Porto next season despite reports linking the Danish attacking midfielder with a potential move to Arsenal.
Arsenal scouts were present at the Estadio do Dragao last weekend as Porto clinched the Primeira Liga title with a 1-0 victory over Alverca. The Gunners’ recruitment staff witnessed the celebrations as the Portuguese giants secured Champions League qualification for the upcoming campaign.

According to Football London, reports from Denmark have indicated Arsenal are among several big-name clubs monitoring the 20-year-old midfielder.
Froholdt commits to Porto stay
Speaking after Porto’s title triumph, Froholdt made his intentions clear regarding his immediate future. “I would love to continue here next season and play in the Champions League for FC Porto,” he said. “I already feel at home and I am very happy here.”
The Danish prodigy has enjoyed an impressive debut season in Portugal following his £17.3million move from FC Copenhagen last summer. Froholdt has made 50 appearances across all competitions, contributing eight goals and six assists to Porto’s title-winning campaign.
However, Arsenal’s interest appears to be at an exploratory stage rather than active pursuit. The presence of club recruitment staff in Portugal was described as part of routine scouting commitments rather than anything more pressing.
Arsenal’s midfield priorities
While Arsenal are keen to strengthen their midfield options this summer, Froholdt does not currently feature among their primary targets. The north London side are well-stocked in attacking midfield positions and would instead prioritise signing a player capable of providing cover and competition in deeper roles.
Any potential move would also face significant financial obstacles. Froholdt’s release clause stands at £73.5million, while FC Copenhagen retain a 10% sell-on clause from his original transfer. These factors would likely make Porto reluctant to negotiate below market value.
Arsenal’s midfield recruitment strategy appears focused on more affordable options with high potential. The club has been monitoring Red Star Belgrade’s 17-year-old Vasilije Kostov, with scouts attending matches in recent months.
Additionally, sporting director Andrea Berta has held discussions regarding Atalanta’s Ederson, though the Brazilian midfielder is not considered a priority target despite his £40million valuation.
Froholdt’s commitment to Porto and Champions League football suggests any Arsenal interest will need to wait, with the Danish international focused on building upon his successful debut season in Portuguese football.
