West Ham have implemented stringent ticket checks for their May 9 clash against Arsenal, requiring supporters without previous booking history to provide photographic evidence of their allegiance to the club.

The Gunners currently sit nine points clear at the Premier League summit and could potentially clinch their first league title in over two decades when they visit the London Stadium. Concerns have emerged that Arsenal supporters have been purchasing tickets in the home sections, hoping to witness their side lift the trophy.

According to The Sun, West Ham have contacted supporters who secured tickets despite having no prior booking record with the club. These fans must now verify their support for West Ham through photographic evidence showing them either attending matches or wearing club merchandise purchased before January 2026.

Ticket office crackdown

An email from West Ham’s ticket office to first-time purchasers outlined the club’s position on the matter. The message stated that tickets are currently on hold and will not permit entry on match day unless supporters can prove their allegiance.

“We are currently conducting ticket checks for this fixture to ensure that away supporters do not purchase tickets in the home end,” the email read. “As you have no previous booking history with us or have only/mainly booked this particular fixture, we require evidence of you and your guest(s) being a West Ham United supporter.”

The club’s terms and conditions explicitly state that home match tickets are for the use of supporters of the club only, conditions that were accepted during the purchasing process.

Title race implications

If Arsenal maintain their current form and mirror Manchester City’s results over the coming weeks, the north London side could secure the Premier League title at the London Stadium. However, the club will be hoping to wrap up the silverware before that fixture arrives.

The timing adds extra significance to the match, with West Ham fighting to avoid relegation at the opposite end of the table. Arsenal’s bitter rivals Tottenham are also embroiled in the relegation battle, sitting just one point above the Hammers with seven games remaining in the season.

West Ham’s proactive approach aims to prevent any potential crowd disturbances and ensure the integrity of home sections during what could be a historic moment for Arsenal. The measures reflect the high stakes involved when a potential title-clinching match coincides with a relegation battle for the hosts.
