An email from West Ham’s ticket office to first-time purchasers outlined the club’s position on the matter. The message stated that tickets are currently on hold and will not permit entry on match day unless supporters can prove their allegiance.

“We are currently conducting ticket checks for this fixture to ensure that away supporters do not purchase tickets in the home end,” the email read. “As you have no previous booking history with us or have only/mainly booked this particular fixture, we require evidence of you and your guest(s) being a West Ham United supporter.”

The club’s terms and conditions explicitly state that home match tickets are for the use of supporters of the club only, conditions that were accepted during the purchasing process.
