Arsenal confirm £24 million deal for Ramsdale

Arsenal have finally resolved the ongoing goalkeeping problem, with the signing of Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United. The deal was confirmed by Arsenal on Friday 20th August.

The fee is reportedly £24 million for Sheffield United’s number one, and this could rise to £30 million with add-ons. It is understood that these add-ons will be triggered if Aaron Ramsdale becomes Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper in the future. Ramsdale will wear the number 32 shirt for Arsenal. He has signed a four-year contract with the option of a further fifth year. He could appear on the bench for this weekend’s London derby vs Chelsea.

The 23-year-old England international was one of the few highlights for Sheffield United last season as they were relegated from the Premier League. Ramsdale won the Sheffield United player of the year and young player of the year for the 2020/21 season. He played in all 38 Premier League games for Sheffield United last season, and he registered 147 saves – the second highest in the league. However, he only kept 5 clean sheets and conceded 63 goals over the course of the season.

This marks Arsenal’s second signing of the day, along with Martin Odegaard’s permanent transfer from Real Madrid, which was confirmed on Friday morning.
