Arsenal could break 65-year record against Manchester City

Arsenal are on the verge of achieving an impressive milestone that hasn’t been matched since the early 1960s.

Arsenal’s defensive solidity at Emirates Stadium this season has been nothing short of exceptional, and Sunday’s clash against Manchester City presents an opportunity to etch their names into the club’s history books. The Gunners have won their last three Premier League home games by an aggregate score of 9-0, showcasing a defensive resilience that hasn’t been seen at this level for over six decades.

The remarkable statistic stems from Arsenal’s perfect start to the 2025/26 campaign on home soil. Their opening fixture against Leeds United ended in a comprehensive 5-0 victory, with Viktor Gyökeres and Jurrien Timber both netting braces in a dominant display. This was followed by another impressive performance as they hosted Nottingham Forest, securing a 3-0 win with goals from summer-signings, Martin Zubimendi and Gyökeres.

Asenal last achieved the feat of winning their first four home games in a season without conceding back in the 1960/61 campaign, making this potential record a 65-year milestone. The defensive unit, marshalled by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, has proven virtually impenetrable, with David Raya maintaining his exceptional form between the posts.

21 year-old summer signing, Cristhian Mosquera, has also impressed both fans and those within the club alike while Saliba has been sidelined due to injury, with £13million now seeming like a bargain from Andrea Berta and his team.

Both teams picked up 2-0 wins in their midweek UEFA Champions League fixtures, with Arsenal winning away at Athletic Club, while City defeated 10-man Napoli at home. However, Arteta’s side have had an extra 48 hours of preparation having played on Tuesday night while the Etihad was in action on Thursday, a direct reverse of last season’s circumstances in a 2-2 draw in September 2024.

Sunday’s fixture against Manchester City kicks off at 16:30 at Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal looking to extend their perfect home record and potentially secure a place in the club’s record books that has stood since 1960/61.
