Mikel Arteta issues exciting transfer update ahead of season

Arsenal manager hints at further squad changes before the transfer window closes, with both arrivals and departures expected at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta has provided Arsenal supporters with an exciting transfer update following his side’s final pre-season preparations, suggesting the Gunners’ summer business is far from complete.
Speaking after Arsenal’s final pre-season friendly against Athletic Club, Arteta delivered an exciting message regarding potential squad movements. “Let’s see what happens in terms of where the squad is in a few weeks,” the Arsenal manager revealed. “We are actively looking at options as well as a few players having to leave.”

The Spanish coach’s comments come at a crucial juncture for Arsenal, who have already completed an impressive summer rebuild worth approximately £200 million. The North London outfit have strengthened significantly with the acquisitions of striker Viktor Gyokeres for £55 million from Sporting CP, alongside Chelsea winger Noni Madueke, Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera, Brentford’s Christian Norgaard, and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The Swedish striker opened his Arsenal account to open the scoring at The Emirates against Athletic Club, before Zubimendi scored the winning penalty after a 3-0 victory.
However, Arteta’s latest remarks suggest Arsenal’s transfer activity remains far from concluded. Reports indicate the manager is still seeking reinforcements in key areas, particularly a direct left winger and an additional creative midfielder to bolster the squad’s depth and quality.
The departures Arteta referenced have already begun materialising. Arsenal confirmed the exits of several players at the end of last season, including Kieran Tierney, Jorginho, Thomas Partey, and Raheem Sterling, whose loan agreement was not extended. These departures have freed up significant wage budget and squad spaces for potential new arrivals.
Arsenal’s transfer window remains active until the first day of September, providing Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta ample time to complete their remaining business. The club’s proactive approach in the market demonstrates their ambition to finally end their 22-year wait for a Premier League title.
With just eight days remaining before Arsenal’s season opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17th August, Arteta will be keen to finalise his squad preparations. The Gunners face a challenging start to the campaign, with fixtures against Liverpool and Manchester City following their trip to Old Trafford, making the completion of their transfer plans increasingly vital.
