Arsenal have been handed a potential opportunity to sign Morgan Rogers this summer, with Aston Villa reportedly prepared to allow the England international to leave for one of the Premier League’s elite clubs.

The 23-year-old playmaker has emerged as a target for the Gunners alongside Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, despite signing a six-year contract extension with Villa in November.

According to The Sun, Rogers is hoping Villa won’t stand in his way over a summer move as he seeks to join a trophy-winning side. Villa bosses are said to have an ‘understanding’ that this summer represents the right time for the former Manchester City prospect to depart.

Financial pressures mount at Villa Park

The situation appears driven by Villa’s ongoing financial constraints, with Rogers considered one of their most valuable assets. After a remarkable campaign that saw Unai Emery’s side challenge for the title alongside Arsenal and Manchester City, Villa have endured a significant drop-off in form.

The Midlands club currently sit five points clear of Liverpool in fifth place following their recent victory before the international break, which ended a run of four matches without a win.

Reports suggest that failing to qualify for the Champions League would make keeping Rogers “close to impossible,” though he could still depart even if Villa secure European football.

International recognition beckons

Rogers’ potential availability has caught the attention of England manager Thomas Tuchel, with the German reportedly planning to include the versatile midfielder in his World Cup squad for the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States this summer.

Emery has previously praised Rogers’ impact and versatility, describing him as “a fantastic guy” with “his commitment with the club is fantastic.”

“His versatility is very important and to be positive playing 10 numbers inside, 10 numbers outside, even like a winger, is very, very important for us,” Emery said in December.

Rogers has delivered impressive numbers this season, recording eight goals and five assists in 31 Premier League appearances while reaching double figures across all competitions. Last campaign saw him net 14 times and provide 13 assists for Villa.

Any potential deal for Rogers has been valued at exceeding £80million, which would surpass Jack Grealish’s current club-record £100million transfer to Manchester City in terms of significance for Villa’s finances.

Arsenal’s interest in Rogers comes as the club continues to strengthen their squad depth ahead of another potential title challenge next season.
