“This guy should be in contention to be player of the season because what he does for Arsenal every single time. It’s very difficult sometimes to see what a goalkeeper does but he cannot make you win the game. He can make you hope that you’re not losing it by making saves but he does that two to three times every single game. It’s just outstanding.”
The former Arsenal striker emphasised how Raya’s contributions often go unnoticed, despite the goalkeeper consistently delivering crucial saves in high-pressure moments throughout the campaign.
Foundation of defensive excellence
While Arsenal’s defensive unit built around Gabriel and William Saliba has received widespread acclaim for their organisation and stability, Henry’s comments shine a spotlight on the final line of defence that has proven equally vital.
Raya’s composure and reliability have provided the foundation for Arsenal’s ambitions across all competitions. His ability to maintain focus and deliver under pressure has been particularly evident in matches where the north London side have faced challenging situations.
The Spanish goalkeeper has already secured back-to-back Golden Gloves in the Premier League, establishing himself as one of the division’s premier shot-stoppers. His consistent performances suggest he could claim the award for a third consecutive season.
Arsenal remain in contention for four trophies as the season approaches its climax, with Raya’s contributions playing a pivotal role in maintaining their competitive edge across multiple fronts. His performances have ensured Arteta’s side can compete effectively even when facing adversity in crucial fixtures.
