Arsenal loanee Sagoe Jr: 'Arsenal are like a family'

Charles Sagoe Jr is spending the season on loan at Kalmar in Sweden, but the young attacker says Arsenal's support has followed him well beyond north London. The 2026 campaign marks a key step in his development, with regular first team football proving hard to come by at the Emirates.
Sagoe Jr is one of several promising academy products to have emerged from Arsenal's youth ranks in recent years. While he is not yet spoken about in the same breath as Max Dowman or Ethan Nwaneri, the club clearly still rates his long term potential, with staff continuing to monitor his progress closely during his spell away from the club.

Nutrition and mental wellbeing part of the package
According to Arsenal, the club's involvement in Sagoe Jr's loan spell goes beyond simply tracking match performances. Staff have kept tabs on his diet and overall wellbeing, aiming to ensure he does not lose momentum while out of the first team picture.
Sagoe Jr has also been feeding information back to the club, helping staff understand how he is settling into life in Sweden. That two way relationship appears central to how Arsenal manage their loan players, treating the spell as an extension of their development programme rather than a clean break from the club.
Sagoe Jr details the support on offer
Speaking via Sport Witness, Sagoe Jr explained exactly what that support looks like on a day to day basis.
“I have a nutritionist who keeps a close eye on my diet and the supplements I need to take,” he said. “Arsenal take care of you in every way, especially regarding nutrition and the mental side. If you have a problem, you can talk to a therapist or the coaches. Arsenal are like a family. They always look after you, even if you are not at the club.”
It is a notable endorsement of the infrastructure Arsenal have built around their academy graduates, particularly those sent out on loan to gain experience in unfamiliar surroundings. For a young player adjusting to a new country, league and culture, that kind of continued contact can make a meaningful difference to how quickly he settles and develops.
Sagoe Jr's time at Kalmar is designed to give him the regular minutes needed to sharpen his game before any potential return to Arsenal's fold. How he performs over the rest of the season will go a long way towards determining what role, if any, he is given back at the Emirates once his loan comes to an end.
