Arsenal have reportedly made contact with both Bayer Leverkusen and striker Christian Kofane as the club explores a potential future move for the young forward, according to Bild. The German outlet reports Arsenal have been tracking the Bundesliga forward since last season and have now stepped up their interest.

Kofane has emerged as one of the more eye-catching young strikers in the Bundesliga this season, and Bild's report suggests Arsenal view him as a player with the potential to develop into one of the leading forwards of his generation. That assessment has reportedly made him a target not just for Arsenal but for several other clubs monitoring his progress across Europe.

Gyokeres speculation adds context

The interest in Kofane comes amid growing speculation that Viktor Gyokeres could leave Arsenal, which would leave Mikel Arteta needing to find a replacement at centre-forward. Gyokeres currently sits behind Kai Havertz in the striker pecking order, and faces further competition from Mikel Merino, who has impressed when used in attack, including during his recent performances over the international break. Gyokeres himself also delivered strong performances on international duty.

Arsenal's attacking options are therefore under some scrutiny, with the club reportedly weighing up whether additional firepower is needed to remain competitive on multiple fronts this season. Kofane is said to be among the names being considered as part of that broader assessment.

Competition for his signature

Bild's report makes clear Arsenal are far from alone in their interest. Kofane's performances in recent months have reportedly drawn attention from clubs across the continent, and further progress this season could only intensify that competition. Arsenal will be aware that any delay in advancing talks could allow rival suitors to move ahead in the race for the striker.

A January move for Kofane appears unlikely in any case. Arsenal would likely need to sell one of their existing forwards before bringing in another striker midway through the season, particularly with Gyokeres still at the club. Squad balance considerations mean any deal for Kofane, if it progresses, is more likely to be a longer-term project than an immediate winter signing.

For now, the situation remains at an early stage, with contact made but no agreement in place. Arsenal's business in the striker market is likely to hinge heavily on developments regarding Gyokeres' future over the coming months.
