Arsenal Pursue Striker to Enhance Attack and Assist Saka

Arsenal are reportedly exploring options to enhance their attacking line in the January transfer window, aiming to provide greater support for Bukayo Saka as he pursues a Premier League assists record.
Among the names linked is a 16-goal striker whose arrival could offer a significant boost to the Gunners’ title aspirations.
A New Striker to Complement Saka
Bukayo Saka has been in scintillating form this season, recording 10 assists as he chases Thierry Henry’s Premier League record of 20 in a single campaign.

However, Arsenal’s current attacking setup has room for improvement.
While Kai Havertz has contributed five goals in 15 appearances, Mikel Arteta’s side could benefit from a more clinical presence up front.
To that end, Arsenal have been linked with Spartak Moscow striker Manfred Ugalde.
The 22-year-old Costa Rican has scored 16 goals and provided three assists in 22 appearances this season.
With a reported £25 million release clause in his contract, Ugalde could be an affordable yet impactful addition to Arsenal’s squad.
Ugalde’s Skillset and Potential Fit
Ugalde’s profile appears to align well with Mikel Arteta’s tactical philosophy.
Beyond his impressive finishing ability, the forward is known for his defensive work rate, pressing opposition defenders effectively, and retaining possession under pressure.
His versatility and energy could add a new dimension to Arsenal’s attack, especially in high-pressure situations.
The Costa Rican forward joined Spartak Moscow in January 2024 after successful stints in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Initially brought to Europe by the City Football Group through Belgian side Lommel, Ugalde gained experience on loan at Twente before making a permanent switch to the Dutch club in 2023.
His rapid rise in Russia has now made him a sought-after player across Europe.
Competition for Ugalde’s Signature
Arsenal are not the only Premier League side reportedly interested in Ugalde.
Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Brighton are among the clubs linked with the striker.
While Manchester City’s interest appears less likely due to the presence of Erling Haaland, Ugalde’s history with the City Football Group could keep them in the conversation.
Despite widespread interest, no concrete moves have been reported yet.
However, Ugalde’s affordable release clause and impressive form make him an attractive prospect for several clubs.
Strengthening Arsenal’s Title Challenge
Currently sitting third in the Premier League, Arsenal trail leaders Liverpool by six points.
Strengthening the squad in January could prove decisive in closing that gap.
Adding a prolific striker like Ugalde would not only enhance Arsenal’s goal-scoring options but could also elevate Bukayo Saka’s creative contributions.
While the Russian Premier League is not as competitive as it once was, Ugalde’s performances this season have shown he can deliver at a high level.
Whether Arsenal can secure his signature amid interest from multiple clubs remains to be seen, but the Gunners’ pursuit of reinforcements signals their intent to challenge for major honours in the second half of the campaign.
