Arsenal had scouts in attendance as Porto suffered a 1-0 Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night, with the north London side among several Premier League clubs run tracking the game.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Arsenal were joined by Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle United in sending representatives to the match, which saw Guus Til score the only goal as PSV picked up a vital away win in the group phase.

Who's out, who's back and what it means for the next two games.

While the report does not specify exactly which players were being watched by the Premier League scouts, Arsenal have been repeatedly linked with a trio of Porto's young talents in recent months: midfielder William Gomes, holding midfielder Victor Froholdt and winger Oskar Pietuszewski.

A difficult night for Porto's prospects

None of the three reportedly tracked players had a particularly strong evening by Porto's own standards, with the Portuguese side struggling to make an impact against a well organised PSV outfit.

It was PSV's summer signing Esmir Bajraktarevic, rather than any of the Porto trio, who stood out on the night. The American forward hit the woodwork in the second half before Til's goal ultimately separated the sides.

PSV head coach Peter Bosz spoke about his side's approach after the final whistle, highlighting the character shown by his players in a tricky group campaign.

“This is who we are; we are PSV. We want to play good football and work hard,” Bosz said. “It was up to us to continue playing a role in the Champions League, because with one point from three matches, it is going to be difficult. We wanted at least a draw, but winning is, of course, even better. Now we are back in the mix.”

Bosz also praised his team's resilience after a shaky start defensively. “I'm proud that we were able to hold on. We dared to play football, and we won the ball back very quickly. Defensively, we weren't good in the first few minutes, but when Mauro and Kodai started pressing, we got it under control again.”

What it means for Arsenal

The presence of Arsenal scouts does not confirm concrete interest in any specific Porto player, nor does it suggest a move is imminent. Clubs regularly send scouts to Champions League fixtures to monitor multiple prospects across both teams, and competition from Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle indicates the trio are drawing wider attention across the Premier League rather than being Arsenal specific targets.

Still, the continued links to Gomes, Froholdt and Pietuszewski suggest Arsenal's recruitment staff are keeping tabs on Porto's academy output, a club with a long track record of developing and selling talent to Europe's top leagues.

Any concrete movement on these targets is likely to depend on how each player's form develops through the rest of the season, with scouting missions like this one typically forming just one part of a much longer recruitment process.
