Arsenal had scouts in attendance as Porto suffered a 1-0 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday night, with the north London side continuing to monitor a trio of young talents at the Portuguese club.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Arsenal were joined by Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle United in sending representatives to watch the fixture, which saw Guus Til score the only goal of the game. While the report stops short of confirming exactly who was being watched, Arsenal have been repeatedly linked with Porto's William Gomes, Victor Froholdt and Oskar Pietuszewski in recent months.

Who's out, who's back and what it means for the next two games.

None of the three had a particularly standout night, with Porto struggling to make an impact against a PSV side that moved back into contention in Group play. PSV's Esmir Bajraktarevic was arguably the brightest performer on the pitch, hitting the woodwork in the second half before his side eventually found a breakthrough.

Bosz praises PSV's resilience

Speaking after the final whistle, PSV head coach Peter Bosz reflected on a hard fought victory that keeps his side's European campaign alive.

“This is who we are; we are PSV. We want to play good football and work hard,” Bosz said. “It was up to us to continue playing a role in the Champions League, because with one point from three matches, it is going to be difficult. We wanted at least a draw, but winning is, of course, even better. Now we are back in the mix.”

Bosz also praised his side's second half defensive improvement after a shaky start. “I'm proud that we were able to hold on. We dared to play football, and we won the ball back very quickly. Defensively, we weren't good in the first few minutes, but when Mauro [Junior] and Kodai [Sano] started pressing, we got it under control again.”

Arsenal's continued interest in Porto's academy

Porto has long been a fertile hunting ground for Premier League clubs looking to recruit promising young players before their value escalates, and Arsenal's scouting presence in the stands suggests the club continues to track developments among the trio even after a below par individual display from each of them on Tuesday.

With Gomes, Froholdt and Pietuszewski all still developing at a club renowned for producing and selling talent, any formal move is likely to remain speculative for now. Arsenal's data led recruitment approach under Mikel Arteta and the club's recruitment staff has previously seen scouts dispatched to watch multiple targets over an extended period before any concrete interest materialises into a bid.

For now, the presence of Arsenal's scouts in Porto serves as confirmation that the club's interest in the trio has not gone away, even if Tuesday's performance did little to enhance their stock.
