“I’m not going to have a big discussion about it because what I like is the personality of a player who decides to go for it,” Beye said after the penalty miss. “When we discussed it, we were very, very clear about the shooting order.”

The transformation has been remarkable and concerning in equal measure. Under De Zerbi, Nwaneri was a regular starter in Ligue 1, trusted to lead Marseille’s attacking play and showcase the promise that convinced Mikel Arteta to fast-track him into Arsenal’s first-team setup.

Under Beye, the teenager has yet to start a single match despite what Football London describes as “relatively poor showings from others” in the Marseille squad. Even Mason Greenwood’s winner against Toulouse could not mask the underlying issues plaguing the French side.
