Gabriel Set to Return for Arsenal’s Clash Against Everton

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has received a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s Premier League encounter with Everton, with Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães expected to return to action.

The news comes as Arsenal navigate a challenging period with several key players sidelined, including Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Gabriel Back in Training

Gabriel has been absent from Arsenal’s last three matches in all competitions due to a muscle injury sustained in late November.

The Brazilian was forced off in consecutive games against Sporting CP and West Ham after finding the net against the former, raising concerns about his fitness.

In his absence, Jakub Kiwior stepped into the defensive line, partnering William Saliba during victories over Manchester United and AS Monaco, as well as a draw with Fulham.

While Kiwior has performed admirably, the return of Gabriel—who trained with the squad at London Colney on Friday—could see Arsenal’s first-choice centre-back duo reunited.

Arteta, speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, confirmed Gabriel’s potential availability, stating, “There is a possibility with one of them to be available. He trained today, and we will see tomorrow.”

When pressed on whether he was referring to Gabriel, the Spaniard simply replied, “Yes.”

Calafiori and Zinchenko Still Sidelined

While Gabriel’s return is a welcome development, Arsenal will remain without Riccardo Calafiori, who continues to recover from a groin injury that has kept him out of the last three games.

Arteta provided an update on the versatile Italian defender, noting, “We are just respecting the times that the medical department has set. He is not fully ready yet but is getting very close now.”

Oleksandr Zinchenko also remains unavailable due to a muscular issue that has sidelined him for recent matches against Fulham and Monaco.

The Ukrainian joins Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, both nursing knee injuries, on Arsenal’s growing injury list.

Despite these challenges, the Gunners have shown resilience, with players like Thomas Partey stepping up in unexpected roles.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes as a makeshift right-back during Arsenal’s midweek Champions League victory over Monaco.

Jurrien Timber, another key figure returning from a lengthy absence, replaced academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly late in the game and is expected to feature prominently against Everton.

Arsenal Focused on Building Momentum

As the busy festive fixture schedule approaches, Arteta will hope to use Gabriel’s return to solidify Arsenal’s defence.

The Gunners have shown strong form in recent weeks, but consistency remains key as they look to maintain their momentum in both the Premier League and Champions League.

While injuries to Zinchenko, Calafiori, and others present challenges, the emergence of young talents like Lewis-Skelly and the adaptability of senior players such as Partey offer encouraging signs for the team.

Against Everton, Arsenal will aim to capitalise on their returning stars and continue their push for success in a demanding campaign.
