Arsenal Target £47m Euro 2024 Spanish Star as ‘Preferred’ Signing

Arsenal have placed Spain’s Nico Williams as Arsenal target in summer transfer, with manager Mikel Arteta keen on adding a new attacker to the squad, according to reports.

The 21-year-old forward was a standout performer for Athletic Bilbao last season, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists in La Liga.

His impressive form continued into Euro 2024, where he earned the UEFA Player of the Match award for his brilliant display in Spain’s 1-0 win against Italy on Thursday evening.

Release Clause Attracts Interest

Williams’ performances have not gone unnoticed, with several top clubs showing interest.

The player’s availability has been made easier due to a €55 million (£46.5m) release clause in his contract with Athletic Bilbao.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are seriously considering a move for Williams, with Arteta viewing him as ‘one of his preferred options’ for bolstering the attack.

However, Arsenal are not alone in their pursuit.

Chelsea also have Williams on their radar, while Barcelona are in the market for a new winger and see the Spain international as a potential target.

Williams Focused on Euros

When asked about his future last week, Williams remained focused on his current commitments.

“I’ve seen reports talking about my future, but honestly, I have no clue of anything. Right now, I want to focus on the Euros and nothing else. I am so happy in Bilbao, I signed a new deal and performed well last season. I feel at home, but I don’t know what I will do. Nobody can tell you about the future.”

Athletic Bilbao’s Stance

Athletic Bilbao’s president, Jon Uriarte, has attempted to downplay the speculation surrounding Williams’ future.

“Nico is very happy in Bilbao and in Athletic and has commented on this many times,” Uriarte said. “We are very happy with Nico.”

As the summer transfer window heats up, Arsenal fans will be eager to see if the club can secure the services of Arsenal target and one of Europe’s most promising young talents.
