Mikel Arteta and his side will look to bounce back after a disappointing outing against Crystal Palace when they host Newcastle at the Emirates.

Arsenal will host Newcastle for the second time in nine days when the Magpies visit the Emirates. The Gunners are coming off a draw against Crystal Palace, and in truth were lucky to come away with a point, despite controlling most of the match.

While Newcastle is coming off perhaps their worst performance of the year, losing to cellar dwellers Sheffield United and giving the Blades their first win of the season.

Team news

Arsenal

Summer signing Thomas Partey was eased back into action against Crystal Palace as Mikel Arteta resisted the urge to start the midfielder. Arsenal rushed him back for the North London Derby and Partey had to be substituted before half time after aggravating his thigh injury. Arteta has taken a more cautious approach and the Ghanaian could be unleashed against Newcastle.

Gabriel Martinelli could also return to the side after missing the last two matches with an ankle injury. The Brazilian has been in full training this week and will add some more firepower to the Gunners attack.

Left-back Kieran Tierney is hopeful of returning after an MRI scan revealed his calf injury is not as serious as first thought. Pablo Mari is out for at least the next two matches with a muscle injury. Arsenal’s defence is set to be boosted with the return of Gabriel after the Brazilian made his return to the bench for the Gunners last match against Crystal Palace.

Newcastle

Jamal Lewis should return after recovering from a knock and Jamaal Lascelles is expected to return to the starting lineup after missing his side’s loss to Sheffield United last time out.

Both Allan Saint-Maximin and Federico Fernandez are listed as doubtful while Ryan Fraser is out through suspension.

Arsenal could go level on points with Chelsea in seventh with a win, while Newcastle could lift themselves further away from the dreaded relegation zone with a positive result.

Predicted line-up: Leno, Holding, Gabriel, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Ceballos, Smith Rowe, Saka, Lacazette, Aubameyang.

On paper this should be a cakewalk for Mikel Arteta’s side however after their recent stutter against Crystal Palace, a win is crucial as look to continue to climb the table.

Arsenal should have too much for a Newcastle side who are really struggling and after handing Sheffield United their first win of the campaign confidence is at an all-time low.

Arsenal should take full advantage and win comfortably.

Predicted score: Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle
