Arsenal vs Watford – Match Preview

Arsenal head into the last game of the season against Watford with not much to play for other than an extra £5.4m in prize money (if they finish 8th) and a bit of pride the defeat to Aston Villa last week. The highest they can finish is 8th, if results go their way. There is no doubt that the FA Cup final next weekend vs Chelsea is much more important but it would be nice if they can end the season with all three points.

As for Watford, they have to better Aston Villa’s result to have any hope of staying in the Premier League. The Hornets go into this game in pretty terrible form after back to back defeats to West Ham and Manchester City. The decision to sack Nigel Pearson with just two games left has raised many eyebrows and it could come back to haunt them if they are to go down.

The last time these two teams met back in September, it finished 2-2 after Arsenal threw away a 2 goal lead at Vicarage Road which has happened far too often this season from an Arsenal perspective. Watford will be looking to punish the gunners from set pieces as nearly half of the 46 goals that Arsenal have conceded have come from them. Watford are winless in their last 7 away league games and have only scored once.
