Arsenal ‘would love’ Kylian Mbappe if Gunners win Champions League

Arsenal would be keen to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer if the Gunners can secure their first Champions League triumph, according to former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit.

The north London side face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final later this month, with victory potentially transforming their appeal in the transfer market.

Mbappe has endured a turbulent time at Real Madrid since his 2022 move, with growing tensions at the Bernabeu potentially opening the door for a shock departure.

Madrid chaos could force exit

The French forward has maintained his stellar form this season, averaging one goal per game across all competitions. However, behind-the-scenes drama at Real Madrid has reached critical levels.

Federico Valverde was reportedly hospitalised this week following a clash with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni, while a fan-backed petition calling for Mbappe’s departure has attracted millions of signatures.

“Arsenal would love Kylian Mbappe and he’d be perfect on their left wing,” Petit told BOYLE Sports. “The only reason I think Mbappe will stay at Real Madrid is because if he leaves without winning a trophy it would make his move a failure.”

Los Blancos face the prospect of a rare trophyless campaign, adding further pressure to an already volatile situation at the club.

Perez holds the key

Any potential move would face significant obstacles, not least Mbappe’s contract situation. The 26-year-old has three years remaining on his deal, reportedly worth around €600,000 per week.

However, Petit believes Real Madrid president Florentino Perez could be swayed by mounting pressure from supporters and the club’s ongoing struggles.

“The only way he leaves is if Florentino Perez cracks under the pressure,” Petit explained. “Millions of fans have signed to say they want him to leave the club. That could be the end for Mbappe because Florentino Perez is a political guy.”

The former France international suggested that Arsenal’s potential Champions League success would dramatically enhance their transfer credentials.

“If Arsenal win the Champions League for the first time then it would change the course of their history and send a strong message in the transfer market,” he added.

Petit believes the ego clashes at Madrid have created an unsustainable environment, with recent managers struggling to control the dressing room dynamics.
