Arteta Hints at Potential Positional Shift for Arsenal Youngster

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested that young academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri could evolve into a striker as the 17-year-old continues to impress this season.
Ahead of Arsenal’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Crystal Palace, Arteta spoke highly of Nwaneri’s versatility and eye for goal, sparking excitement over the teenager’s future.
Nwaneri’s Breakthrough and Potential No9 Role

The midfielder has already scored four goals this season, showcasing his ability to make an impact in the final third.
Arteta, however, believes there is more to come from the youngster, hinting at a potential positional change.
“Ethan can play as a right attacking midfielder, a left attacking midfielder,” Arteta explained.
“He can play as a right winger, and there is another position I think he can develop into — No9. He has got the goal in front of him, and he looks at the goal. He has a tremendous ability to put the ball in the back of the net.”
Nwaneri is expected to play a key role again when Arsenal face Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, possibly stepping into midfield for captain Martin Odegaard.
Arteta’s Trophy Ambitions
As Arteta approaches his five-year anniversary as Arsenal manager on Friday, the Spaniard reaffirmed his commitment to winning more silverware with the Gunners.
Since taking charge in 2019, Arteta has already secured the FA Cup and two Community Shields but remains determined to push Arsenal to further success.
“We want to win and do everything we can to win it,” said Arteta. “The pressure is about being at a big club or winning the major trophies. This is what we want to do.”
The Carabao Cup presents an opportunity for Arsenal to take another step towards silverware, and Arteta is expected to name a strong lineup despite ongoing injury concerns.
Arsenal’s Injury Woes Ahead of Palace Clash
Arsenal remain without several key defenders for Wednesday night’s game.
Ben White, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Riccardo Calafiori, and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all sidelined, leaving Arteta with limited options at the back.
Nevertheless, Declan Rice has shaken off a minor niggle and is available for selection.
Speaking about the challenge of facing Crystal Palace twice in four days, Arteta acknowledged the difficulty of the task.
“It’s always really tough against Crystal Palace. When you look at the results they’ve had recently and their approach, it’s always really tough. It’s another layer of difficulty, particularly when you play a team twice in four days. We’ve prepared for that.”
Arsenal will look to advance to the Carabao Cup semi-finals with Nwaneri once again at the forefront of the action.
Arteta’s faith in the teenager’s development highlights both the manager’s trust in youth and the bright future ahead for the academy star.
