Arteta Shares Injury Updates Ahead of North London Derby

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given an important update on the injury status of key players Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, and Gabriel Jesus as they prepare to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
The Gunners are heading into the north London derby in good form, with seven points from their first three games of the season, and they aim to extend their unbeaten run in Sunday’s crucial clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Arteta mentioned that more tests on Odegaard’s ankle are required, and the final decision on his inclusion will be made in the coming days.
The Gunners’ captain is eager to be part of the action, but Arteta is cautious and is leaving the decision in the hands of the medical team.
Arteta said: “We need some more tests. Let’s see what happens in the next day or so. This afternoon probably. Let’s see the extent of the injury and how quickly we can get him back. Martin wants to be here every day, but we have to wait and see.”
Merino Recovering Slowly from Shoulder Injury
Meanwhile, Mikel Merino continues to recover from a shoulder fracture.
According to Arteta, Merino’s healing process has been slow, but the club is doing everything possible to ensure his return to the squad.
Arteta stressed the importance of Merino understanding the recovery process so that he can come back stronger and help the team as soon as he’s ready.
“Better, it’s a slow process, and it takes a while to heal. We’re using this time to make sure he understands and is back to help the team straight away,” Arteta explained.
Jesus Nears Return to Action
Gabriel Jesus is showing positive signs of recovery after his groin injury and has been participating in training sessions with the rest of the squad.
Arteta is hopeful that the Brazilian forward will be available for the derby, depending on how he performs in the final training session.
If Jesus continues to progress well, he will travel with the team to face Spurs.
Arteta added: “Gabi was out there. He’s got another session tomorrow and if everything goes well, he’ll be with us.”
Despite recent success against Tottenham, including winning three of the last four encounters and the last two away games, Arsenal faces a tricky challenge this weekend.
Declan Rice is suspended, and Odegaard’s potential absence could leave Arteta with a selection dilemma in midfield.
If Odegaard is ruled out, Arteta might have to rely on Thomas Partey, Jorginho, or young prospect Ethan Nwaneri to step up.
Additionally, Raheem Sterling has impressed during the international break and could be in line for his first start in an Arsenal shirt.
Arteta will have to carefully consider his attacking options, with Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, and Sterling all vying for a starting spot.
