Arteta: “The best medicine is wins”

Who would have thought just a week ago that Arsenal would head into the new year in winning form, let alone on the back of consecutive wins? It is the first time since the beginning of the season in which Arsenal has recorded back to back victories.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta stated that the best medicine is winning and after downing Brighton, thanks to Alexandre Lacazette’s second goal in as many games, Arsenal’s season now has different outlook.

Lacazette’s finish was the only goal of a difficult match and the Frenchman has Bukayo Saka to thank for once again setting him up to fire the Gunners ahead. With the win, Arsenal now moves up to 13th in the league standings, just six points behind both Tottenham and Manchester City.

After the match Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta spoke to Amazon Prime.

“We know we’ve been struggling with results,” “The fact we won against Chelsea was a big boost. To come here and get another win was massively important.

“I’m proud for the boys and happy for the result. Lacazette is in a good moment. He’s full of confidence. We wanted to change the team in the second half and give it some freshness.

“We weren’t threatening in certain areas. In the second half we looked much more confident and we were playing more forward.

“The best medicine is wins. It’s a different world and a different story. The picture looks much better.”

The year is now nearing an end and Arteta had thoughts about his first full year in charge of the Gunners. Winning the FA Cup so early on was great for the club, however with recent results, that memory has faded drastically, but Arteta remains optimistic that there will be better times going forward for Arsenal.

“For any manager it’s [been] hard enough considering the context – it’s been quite a challenge. I’ve suffered in some moments but I have great people around me.”

Arsenal now faces West Brom in the new year and the Baggies got taught a lesson by Leeds United going down by five goals as Arsenal saw off Brighton.

Arteta and his side will be confident that they can extend their winning run and build on their newfound confidence.

Maybe, just maybe things are slowly turning around for Arteta and Arsenal.
