Arsenal's interest in a RB Leipzig winger is facing fresh competition, with Aston Villa now reportedly in the race to sign him before the Gunners can make their move.

According to Football Insider, Villa have emerged as serious contenders for Antonio Nusa and are keen to beat Arsenal to his signature during the current transfer window as they continue to progress under their manager.

Arsenal have reportedly been tracking the Norwegian international for some time, with interest said to date back to before the last World Cup. Despite that lengthy period of scouting, the north London side did not move for the winger before the last transfer window closed, leaving the door open for other suitors to enter the picture.

Odegaard connection offers no guarantee

One factor that could work in Arsenal's favour is the presence of fellow Norwegian Martin Odegaard in the dressing room, with suggestions that the Arsenal captain could help persuade his compatriot to make the move to the Emirates. That relationship, however, does not guarantee success, particularly with Villa now pushing to get a deal done.

Villa's participation in the Champions League and their reputation for developing players under their current manager could make them an appealing destination for a winger looking to take the next step in his career. Nusa has attracted interest from clubs seeking a dynamic attacking option, and a move to the Premier League would represent a significant step up for the 21 year old.

Decision time for Arsenal

The competition for Nusa's signature could force Arsenal into making a decision sooner rather than later. Continued monitoring of a target, without a concrete approach, carries the risk that a more decisive rival moves in first.

Arsenal have seen targets slip away to other clubs in the past after lengthy periods of interest without action, and the Nusa situation has echoes of that pattern. Should Villa complete a deal and the winger go on to establish himself in the Premier League, questions will inevitably be asked about whether Arsenal missed their window.

For now, Nusa's next destination remains unresolved, with both Arsenal and Villa reportedly keen on his services. How quickly either club is prepared to act may ultimately decide where the winger ends up.
