Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has delivered another defiant response to mounting speculation linking Julian Alvarez with a potential move to Arsenal and other top European clubs.
The Argentine forward has been in excellent form this season, naturally attracting attention from elite sides across the continent. Arsenal are among the clubs reportedly eager to bring the striker back to the Premier League when the summer transfer window opens.

Barcelona have also emerged as contenders for Alvarez’s signature, adding another layer of complexity to the developing situation. Despite the growing interest, Atletico Madrid remain steadfast in their determination to keep hold of one of their most prized assets.
Atletico’s unwavering stance
The Spanish club have consistently maintained that Alvarez is not available for transfer under any circumstances. With the player tied to a long-term contract, Atletico hold a strong negotiating position should any formal approaches materialize.
However, these public declarations have done little to quiet the rumour mill, with speculation continuing to swirl around the South American’s future. Club officials have grown increasingly frustrated with the persistent links to other teams.
Cerezo has been particularly vocal in addressing the situation, repeatedly shutting down suggestions that Alvarez could be allowed to depart in the coming months.
President’s pointed response
Speaking to reporters about the ongoing transfer talk, Cerezo delivered a characteristically blunt assessment of the situation. As reported by the Metro, the Atletico chief said: “You’re under contract with life. Don’t take it seriously, because there are things you shouldn’t take seriously. If a player has a contract and still has years left, tell me what could happen.”
He continued with a provocative comparison: “Now imagine I’m God and I’ll decide when he has to leave.”
These remarks underscore Atletico’s resolute position and their unwillingness to even entertain discussions about potential offers. The club appears determined to retain full control over their star player’s destiny.
Arsenal’s interest in Alvarez represents part of their continued efforts to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new campaign. The striker’s Premier League experience and proven goalscoring ability make him an attractive proposition for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Despite Cerezo’s forceful public stance, the level of interest from multiple top clubs suggests the speculation will likely continue as the transfer window draws closer.
