Borussia Dortmund contact Arsenal over permanent move for rising star

Borussia Dortmund have made fresh contact with Arsenal regarding a potential permanent transfer for Ethan Nwaneri, as the German club continues their pursuit of the highly-rated teenager.

The Bundesliga side have maintained strong interest in the midfielder for some time, having previously been rebuffed by Arsenal during the last two transfer windows when they were unwilling to sanction his departure.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Dortmund are now pushing for a permanent move rather than a loan deal, believing the 19-year-old possesses the qualities to develop into a key player at the highest level of European football.

Dortmund’s track record with young English talent

The German club have built a strong reputation for nurturing talented young English players, with previous success stories including Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham. Both players developed into elite talents after joining Dortmund at a young age before moving on to bigger clubs.

While Olympique Marseille showed interest in a loan move for Nwaneri in January, Dortmund’s preference has always been for a permanent transfer to secure his long-term development.

Disappointing loan spell influences thinking

Nwaneri’s loan spell in France did not progress as expected, with complications arising after Roberto de Zerbi was dismissed as Marseille manager shortly after the English youngster’s arrival at the club.

Arsenal may now feel they would have benefited more from keeping the midfielder at the Emirates for the second half of the campaign, given how his time abroad unfolded.

Despite the ongoing interest from Dortmund, Arsenal still regard Nwaneri as one of the brightest talents within their squad and remain keen to retain him for the future.

The midfielder is expected to push for a more prominent role in the first team next season, although his long-term future could depend on the amount of regular playing time he receives under Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff.

If opportunities become limited, a move away from north London could eventually become an option, particularly with Dortmund continuing to demonstrate serious interest in securing his signature permanently. The German club’s proven track record with young English talent may prove attractive if first-team opportunities at Arsenal remain scarce.
