Erling Haaland is arguably the best striker in the world right now, and a radio pundit believes Arsenal should try to prise him away from Manchester City when the January transfer window opens, rather than simply hoping circumstances change in the Gunners' favour.

Haaland remains Manchester City's talisman and the Premier League's highest paid player, underlining both his importance to Enzo Maresca's side and his status among the game's elite forwards. He currently leads City's attempt to stop Arsenal retaining the Premier League title, with his scoring record making him a constant threat to Mikel Arteta's side.

City are facing uncertainty after being found guilty of financial breaches committed over several years, with the possibility of relegation still looming if serious sanctions are imposed. That scenario has fuelled speculation that some of City's biggest names could become available, with Arsenal reportedly among the clubs expected to show interest if Haaland were to leave.

Durham: Arsenal should not wait around

Talk radio host Adrian Durham argues Arsenal should not wait for City's situation to be resolved before acting, instead suggesting the club should make a concrete approach for Haaland in January. Speaking as quoted by the Metro, Durham explained his reasoning.

'Then, I thought Erling Haaland would get into any side in the world, his goal rate is phenomenal, and then an idea struck me, Arsenal in January should go for Erling Haaland,' Durham said.

He went on to question Arsenal's continued use of Kai Havertz as a central striker option, suggesting the German does not provide the elite level of goalscoring threat the club requires.

'The reason is this... they've been dilly dallying about, showing a bit of pity on Kai Havertz, saying he works hard, when he really isn't that elite level striker that they want,' Durham added.

A move with obvious obstacles

Any attempt to sign Haaland in January would face significant hurdles. He remains central to Manchester City's plans under Maresca, and any transfer would require an enormous financial outlay given his wages and his contract situation at the Etihad.

Durham's comments reflect a broader pundit view rather than any confirmed interest or concrete move from Arsenal's recruitment department. There is no indication from the club itself that a January approach for Haaland is being planned or considered.

Arsenal's attacking options will continue to be scrutinised as the season progresses, particularly if goals dry up in the business end of fixtures. Whether that scrutiny translates into any real transfer activity in January remains to be seen.
