Jorginho’s Agent Discusses Arsenal, Euro 2024, and Future Plans
Joao Santos, the agent of Arsenal midfielder Jorginho, recently shared insights into his client’s status at Arsenal, his aspirations for Euro 2024, and potential future moves.
Since joining Arsenal in January last year, the 32-year-old Italian-Brazilian midfielder has been a valuable rotation option under manager Mikel Arteta, tallying 1350 minutes across 28 appearances this season.
His versatility in midfield has provided Arteta with tactical flexibility, allowing Jorginho to contribute effectively in various roles.
Jorginho’s Return to Italy’s Squad
Despite a brief absence from the Italy national team, Jorginho has reclaimed a regular spot under Luciano Spalletti, featuring in all four of Italy’s recent matches and is expected to be a key figure in Italy’s squad for Euro 2024 in Germany.
Santos expressed confidence in Jorginho’s abilities and highlighted Italy’s positive trajectory heading into the European Championship.
Speaking to Radio Sportiva via TMW, Joao Santos addressed Jorginho’s Euro 2024 prospects, saying, “I was at the stadium, I watched him live.”
“Italy are on the right path now, they won two important friendlies in the United States against South American national teams such as Venezuela and Ecuador. Now focus on the European Championship.”
Contract Talks
Santos emphasized the positives while addressing criticisms directed at Jorginho, particularly regarding penalty misses.
“Jorginho lifted the trophy at Wembley, it’s right to think about the positive aspects of his career, not just the negative times. It’s football, that’s how it works, I hope he lifts the trophy in Germany too with the Italy shirt,” he said.
Santos also mentioned Jorginho’s contract situation with Arsenal as they looked ahead.
“He’s out of contract with the Gunners, we’ll talk to them because he’s doing well. If they need him from next season.”
“He wants to win Euro 2024 with Italy. His contract with Arsenal expires in June and they have not called us to extend, as of now. We’ll talk soon,” he said.
Jorginho’s Future at Arsenal
When asked about the possibility of Jorginho returning to Serie A, Santos acknowledged football’s unpredictable nature, saying, “It’s always like this in football. Jorginho has played in Italy all his life, he likes it a lot, why say no?”
“If he doesn’t stay, he could return to Serie A,” he added.
Regarding Jorginho’s role at Arsenal as the season nears its conclusion, Santos praised the squad’s strength and highlighted their Premier League leadership and Champions League campaign, noting the upcoming emotional journey as they face Bayern Munich.
He acknowledged the competitive challenges ahead but expressed confidence in Arsenal’s ability to compete at the highest level.
