Julian Alvarez twist emerges as agent switch fuels Arsenal talk

Julian Alvarez's transfer saga has taken another twist, with a significant change behind the scenes potentially reopening the door to Arsenal.
Arsenal pushed hard to sign the Atletico Madrid striker during the closing stages of a hectic summer transfer window, only for Alvarez to hold out for a dream move to Barcelona that never materialised. The Argentine remained at Atletico, but speculation over his future has refused to go away.

Now, according to the London Standard, there are suggestions Alvarez could be open to a switch to Arsenal after Barcelona moved on to other targets following a bitter war of words with their LaLiga rivals. That shift in stance from the player would mark a notable change from the summer, when Barcelona appeared to be his clear preference.
Agent change raises eyebrows
Adding further intrigue to the situation, Alvarez has parted ways with his long term agent Fernando Hidalgo. He is now set to be represented by Pablo Barquero, who also looks after Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
Changes in representation at this stage of a player's career often precede fresh moves in the transfer market, and the timing has not gone unnoticed given the ongoing links to Arsenal. Nothing concrete has been confirmed about what the switch means for Alvarez's next move, but it adds another layer to an already complicated situation.
Arsenal's striker search continues
Arsenal have been searching for reinforcements up front for some time, and Alvarez's versatility, he can operate as a central striker or in a deeper forward role, has long made him an attractive target for Mikel Arteta's side. His willingness to press and link play would fit the demands Arteta places on his attackers.
Arsenal are also said to be involved in several other areas of the market. The club reportedly holds a clear edge over rivals including Tottenham and Aston Villa in the race for RB Leipzig winger Antonio Nusa, with Champions League football potentially giving Arsenal the advantage when the January window opens. At the same time, Arsenal face competition from Liverpool for Mexican teenager Gilberto Mora, with the Reds said to have stepped up their own interest in recent days.
Elsewhere, Arsenal have been linked with a surprise move for Newcastle winger Bazoumana Toure, who only joined the Magpies from Hoffenheim over the summer, as well as maintaining an interest alongside Chelsea in Inter Milan's Andy Diouf.
With the January window still some way off, none of these stories represent confirmed business, but the volume of reported interest underlines how actively Arsenal are said to be scouting across multiple positions. Further clarity on Alvarez's situation, and whether his new representation leads anywhere concrete, is likely to emerge as the window approaches.
