Madueke warned he must sharpen final ball as Dowman pushes for minutes

Noni Madueke remains a useful squad option for Arsenal, but his output in the final third continues to raise questions about how secure his place really is. He has the pace and the confidence to beat a full back, yet the end product that should follow has been a persistent issue.

Mikel Arteta still clearly rates the winger and tends to turn to him when there is space in the side, most often when Bukayo Saka is injured or being rested. That trust has kept Madueke involved in big matches, including this week's Champions League fixture.

Delivery remains the sticking point

Madueke again put in a decent shift in that Champions League outing, showing his usual ability to create room for a cross. But the same old weakness resurfaced: his delivery was often overhit or underhit when trying to find a teammate in a dangerous area.

That inconsistency limits the value of his work down the flank, particularly given how much Arsenal rely on their wide players to turn good positions into genuine chances. Pace and movement alone are not enough if the final pass or cross does not match the quality of the buildup.

Dowman waiting for his chance

Adding to the pressure on Madueke is the progress being made by teenager Max Dowman, who is still raw but continues to push for more first team involvement. According to the Daily Mail, journalist Isaan Khan believes Dowman's development could soon start to threaten Madueke's standing in the squad.

Khan wrote: “With Max Dowman waiting in the wings, he made a short cameo after 85 minutes, Madueke will be watching over his shoulder. He can ill afford not to step up, otherwise his place could well be taken in the coming months.”

Dowman's cameo appearance, arriving late in the same match where Madueke struggled with his delivery, has only sharpened the contrast between the two players' current trajectories. One is an established first team squad member searching for consistency, the other a highly rated academy product steadily gaining Arteta's trust.

What comes next for Madueke

None of this suggests Madueke is at immediate risk of losing his place outright. Arteta has continued to select him when opportunities arise, and his directness remains a useful tool against deeper defensive blocks.

But the margins in Arsenal's squad are tightening, and Khan's comments reflect a broader point that performances alone will not guarantee minutes if the final product does not improve. Madueke's underlying attributes are not in question, it is the execution in the final third that will determine how much he features as competition for wide areas increases.
