Manager Offers Injury Updates After Draw Against Liverpool

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta addressed concerns over injuries to defenders Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber after a gripping 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the Premier League.
The match, which saw Arsenal aiming for their third consecutive home victory against Liverpool, was intense from start to finish, with Arteta missing several key players, including captain Martin Odegaard, Riccardo Calafiori, and suspended defender William Saliba.
Despite these absences, Arteta received a much-needed boost with the return of both Bukayo Saka and Timber to the starting lineup.

Saka quickly marked his comeback by scoring a record-breaking early goal, giving Arsenal a lead.
Liverpool soon equalised through Virgil van Dijk, but Mikel Merino put Arsenal back in front just before halftime.
However, a challenging second half saw Liverpool ultimately level the score through a Mohamed Salah goal, assisted by Darwin Nunez.
Arteta Unsure of Severity of Gabriel’s Injury
In the second half, Gabriel appeared to have injured his knee during a tussle with Nunez.
Although he initially tried to continue, he ultimately had to leave the pitch and was replaced by Jakub Kiwior.
The Brazilian defender headed directly to the tunnel and later returned with an ice pack on his knee, raising concerns about a potential long-term injury.
Timber, who also exited the game before full time, was able to return to the bench, indicating that his condition may not be as serious.
When asked post-match about Gabriel’s injury, Arteta admitted he was uncertain about the extent of the damage.
He explained, “I don’t know the extent of the injury, if there is one. Gabriel couldn’t run, so he came off straight away. They’re assessing him now, but I can’t say if it’s the knee joint or his ankle.”
Arteta also reflected on Timber’s return to action, emphasising that extensive preparations were made to bring him back and acknowledging the diligent work of Arsenal’s medical team.
Disallowed Goal: Arteta Remains Tight-Lipped on Jesus’ Tally
In a tense finish, Arsenal thought they had stolen a late victory when Gabriel Jesus tapped the ball into an open goal during the closing moments of regular time.
However, referee Anthony Taylor had already blown his whistle for a foul earlier in the buildup.
The incident stemmed from a series of challenges that began when Kiwior leapt onto Dominik Szoboszlai’s back, setting off a scramble that saw Kai Havertz and Ibrahima Konate vying for the ball.
Replays later showed that Havertz’s arm made contact with the ball, leading Taylor to stop play before Jesus’s final touch.
When asked if he had received an explanation for the disallowed goal, Arteta declined to comment in detail, simply saying, “No, nothing. I’m sure we’ll get some clarity or a letter about it later.”
Arteta was also reticent about an early clash between Havertz and Van Dijk, which saw the Dutch defender appear to kick out at Havertz, saying, “I haven’t seen the replay. Prefer not to comment.”
Arsenal Retain Third Place Amid Growing Title Challenge
Following the draw, Arsenal remain in third place in the Premier League standings, four points behind Liverpool and five points behind league leaders Manchester City.
Next up, the Gunners will turn their attention to the EFL Cup, where they face Preston North End in the last 16 this Wednesday.
