Hale End’s youth academy star Max Dowman leads England U17 squad to their first win in the U17 UEFA European Championship. A phenomenal goal and assist helped England beat Czechia U17 4-2.
Dowman is the youngest player in the squad at 15 years-old, but his play on the pitch said otherwise. Wreacking havoc for the opposition and leading the way for his side in victory.
Dowman’s first effect on the game happened within 5 minutes. He received the ball near the byline and took his defender one-on-one. Dowman cut left and then back right to beat his defender and fired a low shot past the keeper. A phenomenal bit of skill that got England started on the day.

The fantastic goal crowned Dowman as the youngest goal scorer of all time in the competition.
Dowman continued to influence the game in the 15th minute as he controlled the ball in the midfield before launching a through ball to his England teammate Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez, who slotted in a right-footed finish to double England’s lead. A lovely assist that had some similarities to the play of Arsenal captain, Martin Ødegaard.
The young star was a problem for Czechia, winning the ball back high up the pitch and firing shots that caused Czechia’s keeper some trouble.
Dowman was once again involved in a goal when he received the ball in the midfield and passed to Finlay Gorman, who in turn, played it to Harry Howell, who fired a curling left-footed shot into the opposite corner, making it 3-0.
Arsenal academy goalkeeper Jack Porter also started for England and made numerous saves throughout the game.
Although Dowman was spectacular, due to goal difference, England U17 were eliminated from the competition Monday night, finishing third in their group. The end of a tournament for the two Hale End stars.
Arsenal fans can expect to see Dowman during the preseason tour, as Mikel Arteta has already stated the slow integration of Dowman into the first team. He was a consistent participant in Arsenal’s first team training throughout the season.
The 15-year-old star has received lots of praise from the media and his teammate Declan Rice. Monday night’s performance further established the hype.
