Arsenal’s pursuit of Inter Milan striker Pio Esposito has hit a major roadblock after the player’s agent dismissed transfer speculation and insisted his client wants to stay at the San Siro for the next decade.

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of Serie A’s most promising talents this season, stepping up admirably during Lautaro Martinez’s injury absence. Esposito has contributed eight goals and six assists across all competitions for the Nerazzurri, catching the attention of clubs across Europe.

Agent rules out Arsenal move

According to Metro, Arsenal’s interest in the Italian international dates back to the Champions League group stage encounter between the two clubs. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Esposito both ‘frightened’ and ‘fascinated’ Mikel Arteta during that fixture, with the striker remaining ‘in the eyes and thoughts’ of the Gunners ever since.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta allegedly made contact with Inter immediately after Esposito’s impressive cameo display to gather information about a potential deal.

However, when questioned about these rumours on Radio CRC, Esposito’s representative Mario Giuffredi was quick to shut down any talk of a north London switch.

“Despite Arsenal’s interest, our plans are clear. He’s happy at Inter and will be the future of the Nerazzurri for the next ten years. The boy is in love with Inter,”

Giuffredi explained.

Inter determined to keep their star

The agent’s comments align with Inter’s stance on their academy graduate. Club president Beppe Marotta recently ruled out a summer sale for the 6ft 3in forward, describing him as a ‘treasure’ that the club is determined to protect.

“Inter do not want to sell him and we are not a club that makes player trading its main business. He’s a product that grew up in the youth academy, and we’re guarding him like a treasure,”

Marotta told Italian media.

While Marotta appeared to shut the door on any immediate departure, he left the possibility open ‘in the very distant future’ for potential suitors.

Esposito’s remarkable rise has drawn comparisons to Italian legend Christian Vieri, though his agent prefers to avoid such parallels. The striker is contracted to Inter until June 2030 on a modest salary of around £800,000 per season, secured prior to last year’s Club World Cup.

Arsenal will need to look elsewhere for striking reinforcements, as Esposito appears committed to continuing his development at his boyhood club for the foreseeable future.
