Arsenal face competition from two of Europe's biggest clubs for a young Bundesliga attacker they have been tracking since last season. Real Madrid and Manchester United are both monitoring Bayer Leverkusen forward Christian Kofane, according to a report from Bulinews.

Arsenal have kept tabs on Kofane since the start of last season as he has developed into one of the more highly regarded young attackers in the Bundesliga. The club view him as a player capable of strengthening their squad and continue to assess his progress before deciding whether to make an approach to Leverkusen.

Kofane remains a key part of Leverkusen's plans, and there is currently no indication the German club are willing to sell. That could make negotiations difficult even if Arsenal decide to press ahead with a formal bid.

Two major rivals enter the picture

The report claims Real Madrid and Manchester United are also keeping track of Kofane's development, giving Arsenal serious competition for his signature. Both clubs carry obvious appeal, though their circumstances differ significantly.

Real Madrid have several high profile attackers who do not feature regularly, a factor that could work against them if Kofane is prioritising regular football. Manchester United, on the other hand, are going through a difficult spell as a team, which may make Old Trafford a less attractive destination right now.

Arsenal cannot rely on United's struggles or Madrid's squad depth issues to hand them an advantage by default. Long standing interest alone will not guarantee a deal, and Arteta's side will need to convert their scouting work into concrete action if they want to beat their rivals to his signature.

Decision time approaching

Arsenal's challenge now is deciding when, or whether, to make a formal approach for Kofane. Leverkusen's stance will be central to how any move develops, given the forward remains an important figure in their squad with no obvious intention from the club to let him leave.

Should Kofane continue to progress at his current rate, further clubs could join the race, adding more layers of competition for Arsenal to navigate. That scenario would only make matters more complicated for a club already facing two heavyweight rivals.

For now, Arsenal's interest remains at the monitoring stage rather than an active pursuit. How quickly that changes could determine whether the Gunners end up with a genuine chance of landing Kofane or watch him move elsewhere.
